Liquid Metal: Arena
A downloadable game for Windows
In the distant future, a global catastrophe has led to the planet being almost entirely flooded by oceans. You will pilot the latest BattleFrame in a combat simulation against enemy navel forces and attempt to survive for as long as possible. Your BattleFrame uses next-gen high performance thrusters to skate across the water surface, getting in close to hostile targets and avoiding their fire with the deft manoeuvring of the pilot.
The highly versatile BattleFrame can hold up to four different weapons, each effective against different opponents. Pick between missile pods, MGs, lancer rifles, torpedoes and more.
Good luck, pilot.
A prototype developed for MechJam 2021 in a bit over a week! Absolutely did not get time to achieve everything I was after but it was a lot of fun all the same.
Controls
WASD - BattleFrame Movement
Space (Hold) - Vertical Thrusters
Left Click - Fire Selected Weapon Systems
Scroll - Toggle Weapon System
Prototype Notes
- Due to time constraints I wasn't quite able to get all menus in-game yet. Kill the program with Alt-F4 if you are outside the main menu.
- Almost all of the models in-game are block-outs.
- The sound implementation wasn't 100% complete by the submission deadline, so I opted to remove all sounds rather than only having a few sounds playing.
- I'm definitely going to be polishing up the game with further improvements and content post jam- let me know what you'd like to see below!
Gameplay Tips
- Warships are slow but extremely heavily armed opponents. Torpedoes deal high volumes of damage versus normal weaponry but keep moving to avoid their turrets and homing weapons.
- Toggle your Wingman on from the setup menu for an easier cooperative experience.
- Hostile BattleFrames will begin to appear in later waves. Rely on rapid firing weaponry and homing missiles to bring them down.
- Don't underestimate the turtle.
